    The responsibilities, in whole or in part, of the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES), of the General Secretariat for Education and Science (General Secretariat for Education and Science (SGECThe National Erasmus+ Education and Training Agency (ANE+EF) and the Institute for Higher Education, IP were integrated into the Institute for Higher Education.
    The content available on the websites of the aforementioned entities remains in effect until the completion of their respective dissolution or integration processes.

DGES

Directorate-General for Higher Education

The Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES) was a central service of the direct administration of the State, integrated into the Ministry responsible for the area of Higher Education.

Its mission was to support the definition, execution, and evaluation of public higher education policies, ensuring normative, technical, and administrative functions. In exercising its powers, the DGES contributed to the organization and functioning of the higher education system, in coordination with institutions, regulatory bodies, and other relevant national and international organizations.

Among its main activities were:

  • Technical support for the formulation of public policies in the field of higher education;
  • The management and monitoring of access and admission processes to higher education;
  • The registration of study cycles and support for the network of higher education institutions;
  • Monitoring social action in higher education;
  • Promoting academic mobility and international cooperation in higher education;
  • Coordination with entities responsible for evaluating, accrediting, and regulating the system.

Designs, organizes, and implements measures for risk prevention, security, and violence control in schools.

ANE+EF

Erasmus+ National Agency for Education and Training

The National Erasmus+ Education and Training Agency was the entity responsible in Portugal for promoting and managing the Erasmus+ Programme in the fields of education and training, also ensuring the management and execution of activities still in force from previous European programmes and the Europass Initiative.

Its mission was to support the internationalization of education and vocational training, promoting mobility, European cooperation and participation in international networks, contributing to the quality, innovation and attractiveness of the Portuguese education and training system.

In carrying out its duties, the Agency developed, in particular, the following activities:

  • National management and implementation of the Erasmus+ Programme in the fields of education and training;
  • Management of remaining activities from previous European programs and the Europass Initiative;
  • Support for the internationalization of education and vocational training, encouraging participation in European networks of institutions, particularly in alignment with the "European Universities" initiative;
  • Promoting the international attractiveness of educational and vocational training institutions;
  • Support for the implementation of measures to strengthen accommodation in higher education, as foreseen in the National Plan for Student Accommodation in Higher Education.

SGEC

General Secretariat for Education and Science

The General Secretariat for Education and Science (SGECIt was a central service of the direct administration of the State, integrated into the Ministry responsible for the areas of Education and Science, with functions of transversal support to the respective bodies and services.

As part of its mission, the SGEC Among other things, it ensured legal support functions, providing technical and specialized advice to the Ministry's services and bodies, contributing to the legal compliance of administrative activity and the legal certainty of the decisions adopted.

Within the scope of the administrative reorganization that led to its extinction, the legal support competencies of SGEC They were transferred to the Institute for Higher Education, IP, which will now ensure the continuity of these functions within its area of operation.
