Organization responsible for coordinating and implementing public policies in the field of higher education.

The Institute for Higher Education, IP, was created.

The Institute for Higher Education, IP (IES, IP), was created through Decree-Law No. 109/2025, of September 25, within the scope of the organic reform of the Public Administration.

IES, IP emerges as an indirect state administration body, endowed with administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy, with the objective of concentrating, modernizing and strengthening the management of public policies for higher education, social action, internationalization and European programs.

It integrates responsibilities previously developed by the Directorate-General for Higher Education and the Erasmus+ National Agency for Education and Training, ensuring a more integrated, digital approach focused on both students and institutions.

With an organization based on specialized departments, the Institute assumes responsibilities in the areas of access to higher education, student support, management of the Erasmus+ Program, internationalization, recognition of degrees and diplomas, digital services, and financial and organizational management.

The creation of IES, IP aims to strengthen administrative efficiency, the quality of public service, and the capacity to respond to national and European challenges in higher education.
