ESN Portugal hosted a “Youth Policy Hackathon” to discuss the future of European youth policies.

On June 5th, ESN Portugal organized the “Youth Policy Hackathon”, bringing young people together at the Lisbon Youth Centre with the aim of reflecting on and developing proposals for the future of European policies aimed at youth.

Integrated into the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of Portugal's accession to the European Communities, the event was held in partnership with the Institute for Higher Education and the Commemorative Commission for the 40th anniversary of Portugal's accession to the European Communities, reinforcing its institutional relevance and commitment to youth participation in the European project.

Throughout the day, participants worked in teams in a collaborative environment, dedicating themselves to the analysis and development of solutions around strategic themes for the European Union, namely the future of the Erasmus+ program (2028–2034), the European Degree initiative, and the revision of the EU Youth Goals, within the framework of the European Youth Strategy.

O hackathon It constituted a space for creativity, critical thinking and active participation, allowing young people to present concrete proposals for the development of European public policies. The works were evaluated by a jury composed of Tiago Diniz, representing the Institute for Higher Education (IES IP) and the Erasmus+ Education and Training program, João Costa, former Minister of Education and current Director of the European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education, and Katalin Lídia Gönczy, Advisor at the European Parliament Office in Portugal.

The organization covered the travel and food expenses of the participants, contributing to a more inclusive and accessible participation. The initiative thus stood out as a relevant opportunity to involve young people in the debate about the future of Europe, promoting their active role in building policies that are closer to their needs and expectations.
