The Institute for Higher Education (IES, IP), the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), and the Local Health Unit of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (ULSTMAD, EPE) have signed a program contract that ensures the conditions for the start-up, consolidation, and evaluation of the new Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine. The agreement was approved by the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre.

The new cycle of medical studies at UTAD will begin in the 2026/2027 academic year, offering 40 places through the National Competition for Access to Higher Education (CNAES).
The creation of this course represents a strategic investment in territorial cohesion and health training, aiming to address the shortage of professionals in the National Health Service (SNS) and mitigate the uneven distribution of doctors between metropolitan areas and regions with lower population density.
