Entrance Exams
According to current legislation, to compete through the national entrance exam, it is necessary to demonstrate the ability to attend higher education.
This verification is done through entrance exams and, in some cases, prerequisites.
Although they may take other forms, entrance exams are currently conducted through national final exams at the secondary school level.
The entrance exams required for each course are determined by each institution.
The number of entrance exams required for each course must be between one and three.
Currently, entrance exams are administered through national final exams at the secondary school level.
Therefore, in order to pass a specific entrance exam, you must take the corresponding national final exam.
In some cases, an entrance exam corresponds to several national final exams, so it is only necessary to take one of them.
Consult the General Examination Guide annually to find out which exam you need to take to complete an entrance exam.
For each course at each institution, only exams in which a grade equal to or higher than the minimum grade set by that institution for that course can be used as entrance exams.
The minimum scores for the entrance exams are published annually in the Application Guide for that year's competition.
According to Resolution No. 1233/2014 of the National Commission for Access to Higher Education, national final exams are valid as entrance exams in the year they are taken and in the two following years. From 2022 onwards, the exams are valid in the year they are taken and in the four following years, as per CNAES Resolution No. 1043/2021, of 13/10.
For students holding non-Portuguese qualifications legally equivalent to Portuguese secondary education, entrance exams may be replaced by final exams in subjects from those courses, in accordance with the provisions of the Resolutions of the National Commission for Access to Higher Education in force.
