Inauguration of the Governing Bodies of the new Technical University of Porto

The President of the Institute for Higher Education (IES, IP), Joaquim Mourato, was present this Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the Inauguration Ceremony of the Governing and Management Bodies of the newly created Technical University of Porto (UTP), which took place in the city of Porto. The solemn event marked the official opening of the institution's installation process, following Decree No. 10496-A/2026, approved by the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre.

The ceremony formalized the appointment of Professor Paulo Alberto da Silva Pereira as Rector of UTP, as well as the rest of his management team. The top management structure includes Vice-Rectors Fernando Magalhães, Maria João Viamonte, Celda Morgado and Paulo Ferraz, and also Pro-Rectors Carlos Ramos, Flávio Ferreira, Isabel Pereira, Nuno Bettencourt, Olívia da Silva and Raquel Pereira.

Created under Decree-Law No. 145/2026, the Technical University of Porto succeeds the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, assuming all its rights, competences and functional attributions. The representation of President Joaquim Mourato at this session reinforces the IES's commitment to strengthening inter-institutional dialogue, strategic sharing and consolidating collaborative networks of teaching, research and innovation with the main partners of public higher education in Portugal.
