Directorate-General for Higher Education concludes institutional cycle.

As part of the public administration reform, the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES) concluded its institutional cycle after decades of dedicated service to the development and modernization of higher education in Portugal.

Throughout its existence, DGES has played a central role in defining, monitoring, and implementing public policies for the sector, ensuring the management of access and admission regimes, monitoring social action, organizing information about the network and training offer, as well as promoting international cooperation.

The extinction of DGES is part of an administrative modernization process, with its responsibilities being integrated into the Institute for Higher Education, IP (IES, IP), ensuring the continuity of functions, services provided, and the commitment to quality and innovation in national higher education.
