
The meeting of Directors-General of Higher Education of the European Union, organized within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, concluded today in Nicosia. Portugal was represented by the Vice-President of the Institute for Higher Education, Cristina Perdigão, representing the President of the IES, and by the Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Studies, Planning and Evaluation (DGEPA), Sofia Cordeiro.
Over the course of two days of work, representatives from the Member States discussed some of the main challenges and priorities for the future of European higher education, with a particular focus on the role of European Universities, the link between higher education and the labor market, the internationalization of higher education, academic mobility, and the impact of artificial intelligence on higher education institutions.
The agenda also included interventions from the European Commission, thematic sessions dedicated to European University Alliances, and debates on upskilling and reskilling strategies, mutual recognition of qualifications, and European academic cooperation in contexts of transition and emergency.
Portuguese participation allowed for monitoring the latest European guidelines and initiatives in the field of higher education, reinforcing the national commitment to internationalization, innovation, and the construction of a more integrated and resilient European Education Area.
