IES promotes Portuguese Higher Education in Latin America through Study & Research in Portugal.

The Institute for Higher Education, IP (IES, IP), within the scope of the Study & Research in Portugal initiative, is coordinating the representation of national higher education in the Expo Estudiante and Expo Posgrados trade fair tour, promoted by BMI / Times Higher Education in Latin America. The mission takes place between September 26 and October 11, 2026, covering four countries of high strategic interest for the consolidation of Portuguese internationalization and academic diplomacy: Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Chile.

The national delegation brings together 24 public and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) — including Universities and Polytechnic Universities from across the country — which will present their full-cycle educational offerings (Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees), as well as their research and innovation ecosystems.

Alongside participation in competitions aimed at attracting international students, the work program includes a structured agenda with institutional and diplomatic dimensions:

• Diplomatic Cooperation and International Relations: Working meetings at Portuguese Embassies in the respective host countries, aimed at aligning strategies for promoting the country and welcoming students.
• Strengthening Academic Networks: Technical visits and institutional meetings with leading partner universities in the region and high-profile local secondary schools.
• Dissemination of European Union Programs: Active promotion of opportunities within the Erasmus+ Program, with a special focus on international credit mobility actions and Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters programs.

This action is part of IES, IP's ongoing strategic plan to internationally establish Portugal as a destination of excellence for higher education, attract and retain global talent, and deepen scientific and educational partnerships in the Ibero-American space.
